Site Walkthrough _ Enscape + local context mesh (composite model)
In systems studio, I worked with Allison Stamm and Judy Mendoza to design a project that sought to redefine and make a proposition to the class about how we define “the middle” as it relates to housing typologies in Detroit. This isn’t a post about the project itself but a note in regards to a representational technique we explored to show movement from off the site, into the site, using POV-style footage to capture the experience.
The video shows how one would move from the Dequindre Cut recreational path into the pedestrian boulevard ramp that was designed as an intervention to take advantage of the foot traffic on the site. The footage is from the perspective of a local, a visitor, or an occupant of the housing complex. The video does not show day-to-day movement as it would be for a resident but just showcases how one would navigate the site.
The mesh used for the local context is quite rough. I initially used Polycam with lidar on my iPhone 12 pro to generate a model of my own with rich graphic replication but while on-site the phone app lost the ability to write data and the scan was lost. I have used this process in other projects with great success, it was too bad when this happened and I was unable to realize it at a higher fidelity.
