Adobe Substance Exploration

This past semester, part of my research assistant job was to explore the potentials of the Adobe Substance collection and how it would integrate into the design curriculum in a design studio. A multitude of tutorials can be found online that address the entry points into Substance but my goal was to also explore the “thrifting” of textures from everyday encounters. As a way to test out the software, an initial study (seen here) was produced by mixing images of shoreline shells beds, expanded spray insulation and gravel. The idea behind this was to understand how this texture can be painted onto digital assets and what software it can be brought into. The result was pretty scrumptious and ended up leading into ideas of workshops that students will do as they understand the playground of Substance.
